Beth Scully

Beth began her personal practice in the hot room 9 years ago. Invited by a close friend to try a local studio, she went along for the ride. The first class was grueling, challenging, and the teacher “tough”. One thing was certain, a feeling deep inside Beth knew that she had found her home and refuge. Though it was difficult, her body began to heal from the years of marathon running, soccer playing, cycling, hiking, and pack backing. Overtime the hot room was her 90-minute vacation from life, career, and being a human on the planet. It was the one space that the mindfulness of being still, and accepting was experienced mentally, physically, and emotionally. Fast forward a few years. Due to a career change, Beth was able to allocate time to attend teacher training for 9 weeks. The training was local, so it was ideal. Since that initial training Beth has committed to ongoing learning and training yearly. Beth teaches the Fire sequence, Bikram, and Breathe. Next year, Vinyasa training is on the grid. Beth is also pursuing her training to teach yoga to Parkinsons Disease patients. This is a deeply personal agenda as Beth’s father bravely lived with Parkinsons for 6 years.

Above anything else, the ability to guide students in their own practice and build community with one another as we gather in the yoga room; is what inspires Beth. Careers, stress, political or religious ideologies, physical or emotional barriers, all can melt away as we practice the simple gesture of genuine acceptance of the present moment as perfect whatever it brings. The ability to experience this, and carry it into the world is a new level of powerful, and life changing.

Heidi Syvrud

I started practicing Bikram yoga in March 2001 and loved it from the beginning. I felt the benefits immediately. I found it challenging and very rewarding and that I just felt balanced and energized when I practiced it. I also noticed my body transform and my skin just glowed. I felt good from the inside out. I loved what the yoga had given me: strength, stamina, confidence and basically an “I can do anything I set my mind to” attitude. The same way I felt after I went through Basic Training for the military. I wanted to learn more about the series and share it with others after I finished a three year stateside mobilization for the Army Reserves that ended in March 2007.

I attended Bikram yoga teacher training in April 2007 in Hawaii on Waikiki. Nine weeks of yoga twice a day and learning more about the benefits of the yoga and learning to teach and share it with others sounded heavenly to me after my mobilization. I have been teaching and sharing the yoga ever since. I teach and share the yoga because I love to see the transformation the yoga brings to people physically and emotionally and to be part of those changes is truly inspiring and fulfilling. I retired from the Army Reserves in March 2010 after 22 years of service just three years after becoming a Certified Bikram Yoga Teacher. I love what yoga has given me. I feel a sense of accomplishment and peacefulness that no one can take away from me after I practice. I am constantly reminded by the yoga how amazing the human body really is.

Meghan Lewis

Meghan, Teacher,

Meghan has been practicing yoga since she happened upon a kundalini class in college. After dabbling in various styles for a few years she took her first Bikram class in 1996. Immediately hooked, and relieved to have found her refuge, she has practiced in the hot room for 20 years. In 2002 she attended Bikram's teacher training in Los Angeles, and taught for many years in quite a few Seattle area studios. In recent years she has stepped away from the teaching podium as she cared for her husband through his cancer journey and subsequent passing. Yoga practice has proven year after year to be a source of deep healing and abiding peace for Meghan, and she sincerely hopes that through her conveying of the essence of the practice that her students can also abide in that healing space of peace and tranquility. Meghan recently moved to Normandy Park, and is thrilled to be joining the Be Yoga Burien squad of high caliber instructors!

75 mins of Bikram's Beginners Series, 26 postures with 2 breathing exercises designed for all levels, from beginner to advanced, to work the entire body from bones to skin.
The room is heated to 105 with 40% humidity allowing the body to stretch safely and detoxify fully. Students are encouraged to rest when needed, listen to the body, never force. You will be amazed at what is possible!
